Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. The role will suit a technically strong accountant who enjoys client contact, delivering accurate financial information, and supporting junior colleagues. You will be responsible for managing a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and deadlines, and contributing to process improvements across the practice.
Key Responsibilities
Supervising the monthly accounting department.
Provide supervision, training and review of work produced by junior staff; delegate tasks and support staff development with self-confidence, self motivation and a positive attitude.
Supervision and training junior staff and SAIPA trainees.
Manage the preparation and review of management accounts, budgets and cashflow forecasts for a client portfolio.
Preparing and reviewing Annual Financial Statements using IFRS for SMEs
Oversee and manage the timely submission of statutory returns.
Assisting clients with accounting and software support
Act as a primary client contact: build relationships, manage expectations, resolve queries and deliver exceptional client service via phone, email and virtual meetings.
Work with practice systems (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, CCH) to maintain accurate client records and drive efficiencies through process improvements.
Support statutory and regulatory compliance, ensuring deadlines are met and professional standards upheld.
Contribute to ad-hoc advisory projects and assist managers and Directors with client-focused initiatives.
Key Requirements
Fully qualified SAIPA or SAICA Articles or similar experience - completed
Strong VAT knowledge
XERO experience essential
Caseware knowledge essential
Pastel Partner and SAGE ONE experience
Proficiency in accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar)
Highly computer literate in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word and Excel)
Company and Individual tax knowledge essential
Proven experience preparing statutory accounts, management accounts and supervising junior team members.
Strong numeracy, high attention to detail and professional judgement.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to clients and colleagues.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, work independently and meet deadlines.
Own transport and drivers licence essential
