Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced VAT professional to take ownership of the VAT function across a diverse client portfolio. This role is responsible for the end-to-end management of VAT compliance, client communication, and internal coordination to ensure accurate, timely submissions in line with HMRC requirements.

Key Responsibilities

VAT Compliance & Delivery

• Manage the VAT function for a portfolio of approximately 100 clients.

• Request, track, and coordinate VAT information from clients in line with submission deadlines.

• Review and approve VAT calculations and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current VAT legislation.

• Submit VAT returns to HMRC within statutory deadlines and maintain appropriate supporting records.

Client & Team Liaison

• Work closely with bookkeeping staff, reviewing VAT-related queries and providing clear, practical guidance where required.

• Issue VAT reports to clients, clearly explaining VAT positions and addressing queries in a timely and professional manner.

• Act as a key point of contact for VAT matters, building trusted relationships with clients and internal teams.

Process & Workflow Management

• Manage multiple VAT deadlines simultaneously while maintaining high standards of accuracy and organisation.

• Oversee VAT workflows and processes, identifying efficiencies and ensuring consistency across the function.

• Support and guide junior staff where applicable, ensuring work is completed to required standards.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience within a VAT or finance function, with hands-on responsibility for VAT compliance.

• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage high-volume workloads and competing deadlines.

• Confident and clear communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain VAT matters to non-technical clients.

• Strong team-working skills, able to collaborate effectively across bookkeeping, finance, and client-facing teams.

• Experience managing processes, workflows, or junior staff within a VAT environment is highly advantageous.
