Accounts Assistant Practice Manager
Location: Bristol
Contract Type: Permanent – Office-based
About Streets:
Streets is a Top 40 UK accountancy firm with over 40 offices and a growing international presence. The firm combines long-standing heritage with a modern, forward-thinking approach and continues to expand nationally and globally. This role sits within our Bristol office, an established and well-regarded part of the Streets group. As the office continues to strengthen and develop, the Directors now require additional senior operational support.
We are seeking an Assistant Practice Manager to work directly alongside the Bristol Directors and play a key role in the day-to-day leadership and operation of the office.
The Role:
This is not a traditional senior accountant position. This is a hands-on leadership role supporting the Directors in all aspects of running a busy and growing practice. You will be involved in:
• Supporting and mentoring the team
• Managing workflow and deadlines across accounts, bookkeeping and tax
• Reviewing and preparing statutory accounts
• Overseeing bookkeeping and VAT returns
• Supporting corporation tax and basic personal tax matters
• Attending and leading client meetings
• Handling client queries and advisory conversations
• Supporting new business enquiries and proposals
• Contributing to strategy and growth initiatives
• Stepping in operationally when required
You must be comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on delivery. Some days will involve review and oversight. Others will require you to roll your sleeves up and support directly.
This is a leadership role that requires a consistent on-site presence within the Bristol office. Whilst occasional flexibility can be agreed when required, the expectation is that the role is primarily office based.
What We Are Looking For:
We are looking for a commercially aware, proactive and confident individual who wants to play a genuine leadership role within a successful office. You must:
• Be ACA or ACCA qualified
• Have a minimum of 5 years’ recent experience within UK accountancy practice
• Be confident reviewing and preparing statutory accounts
• Be comfortable overseeing bookkeeping and VAT returns
• Be able to support corporation tax and basic personal tax matters
• Have experience supervising and developing a team
• Be commercially aware, with a solid understanding of WIP, billing and practice profitability
• Be confident in client-facing situations
This role will suit someone who wants to be fully involved in running a practice and is comfortable balancing leadership with hands-on delivery. It requires maturity, initiative and accountability.
Progression: For the right individual, there is clear progression potential. This role can develop into:
• Full Practice Manager
• Senior leadership within the Bristol office
• Wider opportunities within the Streets group We are seeking someone who sees themselves progressing into full Practice Management in the medium term and who is motivated by responsibility and long-term growth.
